. Founded in 2021 by visionary entrepreneur Muofhe Ratshikombo, Oumies Grandé brings the rich flavours of South African heritage directly to your table. Specialising in traditional handmade fruits, vegetables, and condiments, every bite promises to evoke warmth and quality.
Atchar was and continues to be part of every day’s meal in Mamvuka, a village in Venda. Our founder, Muofhe Ratshikombo’s story is a true definition of resilience, perseverance, following your dreams and doing something you are passionate about.
EARLY DAYS OF OUMIES GRANDE
Growing up, we had a tuckshop at home. When it was mango season, Muofhe and her grandmother would use mangoes from the village’s orchards to prepare mango atchar.
Along with Magwinya, bread, etc. they would sell it to students and teachers from local schools as well as the neighbourhood. Over time, we noticed that the quality of the atchar we were producing began to decline, which began to negatively impact our business.
Muofhe became so curious about understanding how atchar was made to be more efficient. Despite financial constraints, Muofhe persuaded her family to pursue a degree in Agricultural Development and Extension so that she could have a deeper understanding of how this amazing food is produced. Muofhe was able to save money to launch her business when ABInBev (SAB) offered her an internship under Agri-Development beginning in January 2021. After years of consistency, patience, and passion, Oumie’s Grandé, named after her grandmother, “Oumie”, was opened in 2021. The business has now expanded. We are currently operating in Limpopo and Gauteng.
